While it is rightly said that every man's death diminishes us all, the death of Michael Robert Ochsner, Sr. diminishes us more than most. "Uncle Mike" walked his talk. His courage, honesty, integrity, ethics, morals, love, dependability, trustworthiness, compassion and phenomenal wisdom was of the highest order. His greatest gift was his remarkable intuition which he used wisely; as a Marine, as a Police Officer, as a Father, Brother, Son, Brother-in-law, Uncle, Husband, Cousin, and friend. His intuition was always at work guarding, guiding and protecting us all. He went of ahead of us to prepare the way. His sense of humor allowed us to find humor in ourselves and be comfortable with it. Everyone of us wanted to be around him all the time. We felt good around him. He brought us hope through laughter and showed us how in any situation, occasion or event, to always rise above it with humor. Uncle Mike displayed acts of kindness without looking for anything in return. He was a firm believer in the innate goodness of all mankind. All children loved Uncle Mike. He had this remarkable ability to enter a room and know which child needed an extra hug. The role he played in our lives, each and everyone of us, have stories and memories that if painted on a canvas would be the greatest masterpiece of all. His life touched and reached us in a place called, "the soul". Uncle Mike completed his task on earth to perfection. We are a family of great faith, as a representative of the Ochsner family, we thank the outpouring of mourners that were so phenomenal in number that it reflected the greatness of man many called friend, his siblings called brother, and his nieces and nephews called, "UNCLE MIKE". May God Bless and keep you and help us to heal our broken hearts...your niece, Laura Matook

The loss of Uncle Mike is quite a blow to the family and to me personally. Not only as the loss of a relative, but the loss of a fellow service member, and the loss of a pillar of the community. I grew up with Stories of Uncle Mike’s exploits from my dad and always wished I could have been there at that time. A man is judged by the legacy he leaves, and Mike’s will be a great and honorable one. Our family mourns the loss of a loved one, and the community mourns the loss of a hero.
