Mr. R. Grey Mayson, Sr. entered into rest on Friday evening, November 18, 2011.   A memorial service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at The Church of the Holy Trinity (Anglican) North Augusta, SC. A private burial of ashes will be held later at Rosemont Cemetery in Clinton, SC. The family will receive visitors after the service at the church. The Reverend Robert Hartley, Rector, will officiate assisted by The Reverend Dan Brown and The Reverend Nancy Kinney.   Grey Mayson began attending the Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity in North Augusta in early 2009 after being a member of the Episcopal Church for 74 years. He was married to the late Gladys Satterfield Mayson of Clinton, SC and formerly married to Betty Peeples Mayson originally of Augusta, GA. He is survived by two children, Richard Grey Mayson, Jr. of North Augusta, SC and Elizabeth Allison-Hackett (Ryan) of Nashville, TN.  Also surviving are three grandchildren, Krista Marie Allison, Robert Grey Allison, and Bella Elizabeth Hackett, all of Nashville; his sister, Margaret Jeannine Mayson of North Augusta, SC and his sister-in-law, Sylvia Moutus Mayson of Augusta, GA. He is also survived four step-children, Janet Holsonback, Kathy Foster, Ronny Sanders and James Sanders.    A son of the late William P. Mayson, Sr. and Margaret Caldwell Mayson, he was born in Augusta, GA, graduated from North Augusta High School, attended Augusta College, and was in the Army Reserves for 8 years (serving active duty from 1961-1962). After returning from his military service, he was security supervisor of several hospitals in the two state area, including University Hospital in Augusta, GA. In 1974 Mr. Mayson accepted the position as the first Chief of Public Safety at Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. During his 25 years as Chief, he was instrumental in getting the South Carolina Legislature to pass a bill that permitted private colleges and universities to train their public safety officers at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy as certified police officers. Subsequently, Presbyterian College became the first private college in South Carolina to require public safety officers to be certified. Chief Mayson was a charter member of the South Carolina Campus Law Enforcement Association, serving as secretary/treasurer for five years. He was also a charter member of the Sudlow Lake Association for the lake he loved so dearly.   Honorary Pall Bearers will be retired Presbyterian College Public Safety Officers and members of The Kindergarten Club of North Augusta.   Mr. Mayson requested no flowers.
