David McElroy

Mark left his loving family on December 6, 2011. He was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on January 25, 1957. He attended Pampa High School in Pampa, Texas. Mark was a beloved son, brother, father, uncle and friend.  Embodying the spirit of the wild west, Mark was known for his true grit, his mischievous laugh, his pranks and his sense of fun. He was a veteran of the US Navy and served on the submarine tender USS Sperry. He was a talented industrial welder and an inspiration to many during his years in recovery.

He is survived by his parents, Rhea Lee Bonner Ward and Vincent P. Ward of Columbia, SC, and William M. and Jean D. McElroy of Pawley’s Island, SC. Also surviving are his siblings Rhea Ann Merck of Columbia and Christopher Lee McElroy of Lexington, SC; his son Kyle Mark McElroy and former wife, Pamela Best of Pampa Texas; his nieces Caitlin and Rebekah Merck and Allison McElroy; his nephew Matthew McElroy; his brother-in-law, J. Jeffrey Merck, and his many loving family members in Texas and both coasts.

A brief service will be held at 2PM Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 1112 Hummingbird Drive, West Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations be given to Harvest Hope Food Bank or Central Carolina Region Narcotics Anonymous.
