Helen Smarz Maddox

 

A Memorial Service for Helen Smarz Maddox will take place on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 2pm at Lexington United Methodist Church, 309 East Main St. Lexington, SC.    Mrs. Maddox, 84, of Lexington, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at her residence.   A daughter of the late John Smarz and Catherine Kominowski Smarz, she was born in Ludlow, PA. She was proud to serve as a WAVE in the United States Navy where she met her husband of twenty-five years, Ralph Randall Maddox. She then went to nursing school and served as an LPN at Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC for many years.   After a military transfer to Alexandria, VA, Mrs. Maddox continued her career in civil service. Upon retiring, she moved to South Carolina to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She was a member of Lexington United Methodist Church and often volunteered at the Lexington Interfaith Community Service Center. She was loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.   She is survived by two sons, Randy A. Maddox, Alexandria, VA and Scott A. Maddox, S. Riding, VA and a daughter, Carol J. Bessinger, Lexington, SC. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
