Ruby Lee Adkinson

Heaven's garden gained another flower today. Ruby Lee Adkinson, born November 1, 1929 died Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in her hometown of Aiken, SC.   The matriarch of a large, extended family, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of years, Brinkley (December 17, 2004) and three cherished sons: Carl (1952), Randy (1994) and James (2009). She is survived by her devoted loving children, Minnie Lee Forrest of Ridge, Maryland, Ronnie Adkinson of Jackson, SC and Gerald Adkinson of Aiken, SC and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of Ruby's greatest pleasures in life was gathering her family around for lively bar-b-ques and cookouts. She made the best potato salad ever and loved passing her recipes to her family. It wasn't uncommon to see her dancing in the kitchen with whatever grandkid happened to be around. "Cuttin' up" with people, joking and laughing was a gift she gave all who knew her. She also gave the best hugs ever. Though she was a small woman, her hugs were huge and loving! Country music was anohter of her favorite things - she loved to dance. "Granny" was a sweet woman: she always saw the good in people and was kind to everyone. She made friends wherever she went. Giving gifts gave her such pleasure, she never forgot anyone and gave till she couldn't give any more. Ruby also took great pleasure in flowers and gardening - her gardens were full of many different colored and types of flowers. Spring was her favorite season, with its bright flowers. Her 'green thumb" was extraordinary and many of her plants have been passed down through her family. Ruby's memory will live on through her recipes, her plants and the joy of life she gave to all who knew her.   Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Hollow Creek Baptist Church, under the care of South Carolina Cremation and Burial Society, Granitville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.
