Arthur Donald Barton

Mr. Arthur Donald “Don” Barton, 85, of Chapin died Monday, September 30, 2013 at his residence. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. South Carolina Cremation Society, Lexington, is assisting the family.   A son of the late Thomas Russell Barton and Nannie Hudgens Barton, he was born in Anderson, SC and had lived in Greenville, SC before  moving to Chapin twenty years ago. He served in the US Navy and then began a career as a construction estimator,  retiring from the Fluor Corporation in the early 1990’s. He enjoyed time with his family and being at Lake Murray.   In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two children, Donna Lee Nieves and Donald Bennett Barton.   He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Bennett Barton, Chapin; daughter, Marcia (Bill) Blackwell, Chapin; a son, Robert  “Bob” Arthur Barton, Plano, TX; a son in law, Gilbert Nieves, Chapin, SC; four grandchildren, Rob & Nicki Major, Greenville, SC, Chris (Jessica) Major, Greer, SC, Kevin  (Jessica) Major, Irmo, SC and Jennifer (Jesse) Simmons, Columbia, SC. He was also survived by nine great grandchildren.   Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
