Dr. Fred William Teuber passed away peacefully at home September 22, 2013 after a long struggle with cancer.  A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Shandon Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, October 1st at 2:00, followed by a reception in the church activity center.   Born in Flint, Michigan in 1929, he was the son of Frederick and Ruth Trask Teuber.  He earned degrees in music composition from Michigan State University and the New England Conservatory of Music, and a Ph.D. in Composition from the University of Iowa.  He had a long career at the University of South Carolina School of Music where he taught french horn and low brass, music theory, composition and orchestration, coached chamber groups, conducted musical theater, and performed with chamber groups and orchestras from 1967 until his retirement as Distinguished Professor Emeritus in 2000.   He took great joy in composing and arranging for his many colleagues, students, and fellow music makers, and continued to contribute to civic and church music into his eighties.  A collection of his compositions is now housed in the University of South Carolina Music Library.    Fred is survived by Janet, his wife of 31 years, their two children Erik and Rebecca Teuber, both of Columbia, and by his three children from a previous marriage to Shirlee Teuber-Goins:  Tom Teuber and wife Donna of Columbia, Claire Teuber of Mount Pleasant, and Hans Teuber and wife Ja of Seattle.  He is also survived by his two granddaughters, Meg Teuber of Columbia and Isalee Teuber of Seattle, brothers Ronald Teuber of Elmhurst, Illinois, and Jack Teuber and wife Mary of Waterford Township, Michigan, and numerous nieces and nephews.   Memorials may be made to the Centennial Organ Replacement Fund at Shandon Presbyterian Church, 607 Woodrow Street, Columbia, SC 29205.
