Martha Marie Duchon

Martha Marie Duchon, age 91, born April 19, 1922 in Chicago, died January 12, 2014 at Oakridge Nursing Home in Hillside. Miss Duchon was a lifelong resident of Berwyn, graduated from Morton High School and Morton Junior College. She went on to attend Cook County School of Nursing where she graduated with her RN license, with her nursing degree she enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in China, Burma and India during WWII. She attained the rank of First Lieutenant before her discharge. She went on to earn advanced degrees from the University of Minnesota and Columbia University. Martha was employed at Crane College and later at Triton Junior College where she retired as professor of nursing. After retiring, Martha assumed care of her aging parents until their deaths. Martha was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary of Celle Church until it became necessary for her to move into a medical facility. She is preceded in death by her parents, Method C. and Anna (nee Vlcek) Duchon and her older brother Method. Martha is survived by her brothers Frank and Bill and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation Saturday, January 25, 10:30am until time of Mass 11:00am at St. Mary of Celle Church, corner of 15th Street and Euclid Ave., Berwyn. Interment St. Adalbert Cemetery.
