Director of Nursing serving the Bay Area Geriatric Community for 30+ yrs, Paula Rogers, Dies at 78

Paula Sue Rogers, a retired registered nurse, was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on July 23, 1935, the daughter of Bobbie Ruth (Ferrell) Pillow.


At a young age, her family moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Paula attended public  schools, was active in the AME Church, and at age 18, she received her MS in nursing from Homer G. Phillips School of Nursing.


Following graduation, Paula worked as a nurse perfecting her craft at Homer G. Phillips Hospital, a historical Black hospital that provided care for African American residents when White hospitals refused to admit people of color.


Paula Sue Rogers was married to the late Kenneth Rogers in 1956 and they raised four children: Carla, Keith, Paul and Monica Rogers.  The family resided in Lawrence, Kansas before moving to Sacramento then settled in Oakland, California.


Mrs. Rogers, while a member of other organizations, was very active in the National Black Nurses Association in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area.


Paula Sue Rogers is survived by two daughters & two sons: Carla Denise Rogers, Scottsdale, Arizona; Monica Lynn Rogers, Citrus Heights, CA; Keith Alexander Rogers, Altadena, CA; Paul Anthony Rogers, Phoenix, Arizona; a granddaughter, Amber Rogers, and a host of relatives and friends.
