Mary C. Price Mary C. Price Memorial

Born: May 14, 1944 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
Died: February 15, 2014 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

A truly amazing woman!

The life of Mary Catherine Price (known to many as Ms. Mary) can best be described as ‘unforgettable'.  On Saturday, February 15, 2014, she was called home after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 14, 1944 to the late Hardy and Catherine (Lewis) Price, Mary was one of eleven siblings.  She married the late Bobby Jackson Sr. with whom she had six children.  After divorcing, the 27-year- old mother resettled in Carlisle, PA where she raised her children.
Seeking better opportunities for her family, Mary remarried widower David A. Robinson and the new family (including David's daughter Keisa Robinson-Steiner) relocated to Upstate New York.  The marriage ended and after briefly living in Plymouth, MA, Clinton, MD, Wurtsboro, NY, and Monticello, NY, she eventually settled in Philadelphia, PA, where she called home for the past twenty-four years.
Mary graduated from George Washington Carver High School in New Orleans, LA. She returned to school as an adult learner and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Orange County Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from State University of New York at New Paltz.  Mary used the knowledge from her studies to counsel anyone in need.

She held various professional careers throughout her lifetime. At her time of passing she was a recent retiree from the Office of HIV Planning, where she proudly served as the Office Manager for sixteen years. In this role Mary described her life as forever changed by the special people she met through this office and others who worked to advocate policies that improved the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS.

Mary took the many challenges of life in stride and she consistently found the silver lining in all situations, as evidence of God’s mercy worth celebrating. She often told her children to “count your blessings”.
She will be missed for so many of her qualities including her warm hugs, her “God is good” stories and her gift to connect with anyone.

She leaves to mourn her children, Tatricia (Terrence) Garrett, Tami (Douglas) Jackson Tillman, Tanya (Gerald) Gardner, Barbette Jackson, Bobby (Martha) Jackson and Gordon Jackson. She is also survived by three brothers, Hardy (Carmelite) Price, Lionel (Louise) Price and Edward Price; three sisters, Morra (James) Howard, Lolita (Louis) Augillard, and Norina (Kermit) Pennington; eighteen grandchildren: Zachery Garrett, Camille Garrett, Jackson Garrett, Jabari Jackson, Wilberto Taylor, Jonathan Tillman, Alayah Tillman, Tracy Beedle, Gerald Gardner II, Ayanna Gardner, Joshua Gardner, Grace Gardner, Maraida Jackson, Tamera Jackson, Bobby Jackson III, Kairo Jackson, Kaleb Jackson and Kaden Jackson and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and beloved friends.
