Alice R. Murray 1921 - 2014

Alice Regina Murray was the youngest child born to Catherine, nee Reilly, and Edward M. Murray of Philadelphia.  She attended Saint Patrick’s Grammar School, Saint Frances deSales Elementary School, West Catholic High School for Girls.  She graduated from Immaculata College.  She was formerly a member of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Philadelphia, but left because of illness.
Alice earned a library certificate in Chicago, IL and later worked at the Philadelphia Shipyard as a technical librarian.  She was a long-time resident of Upper Darby, PA and was an active member of Saint Alice’s Church where she attended Mass daily, sang in the choir, served as a lector and a tuition counter. One of the highlights of Alice’s life as a chorister was to sing at the Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia in 1976.
Alice was a resident of Holy Family Home in West Philadelphia since 2009 where she was lovingly cared for by the Little Sisters of the Poor, the staff and the residents.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, and her siblings, Edward M. Murray, Jr., Catherine M. Murray, Mary Gaughan, Sister Mary Amadeus Murray, S.H.C.J., Thomas Murray, John Murray, and Joseph A. Murray.
She is survived by nieces and nephews: Mary (Murray) Sharkey, Frank Gaughan, Thomas Gaughan, Mary Kay (Gaughan) McNulty, Peggy (Gaughan) Moran, Patricia (Murray) Reilly, Thomas J. Murray, The Rev. Kathleen Murray, Marianne Murray, Eileen (Murray) Weirsky, John J. Murray, Michael Murray, Edward M. Murray, Francis X. Murray, Pauline T. (Murray) Nissen, Richard Murray and Robert Murray.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Holy Family Home, 5300 Chester Avenue.  Viewing, 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in the chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 5300 Chester Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, 19143.
