In Memoriam

A memorial service, with military honors, for Mr. John Nixon Love will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Matthews Presbyterian Church, 105 Amaker Street, St. Matthews, SC with Reverend Michael Anderson officiating.  Interment will take place at a later date at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC. South Carolina Cremation Society, Lexington is assisting with arrangements.


Mr. Love, 68, of St. Matthews, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at his residence.


A son of the late Walter Erdman Love and Elsie Louise Biggs Love Riggs, he was born in Mecklenburg County, NC and had lived in St. Matthews since 1974.  He served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam Conflict aboard the USS Topeka and the USS Semmes. Thereafter, he earned his Bachelors degree from the University of South Carolina. He then enjoyed a career as an accountant for the SCDSS.  He was a member of The American Legion and the Masonic Lodge in St. Matthews.


In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Suzanne Lancaster Love, who died in 2009.


He is survived by his wife, Rita Spearman Love, St. Matthews; sister, Elsie Love (Calvin) Reid, Potomac, MD; half-brother, Walter “Buddy” Love, Charlotte, NC; step daughters,  Lillian Whalen of Orangeburg, SC and Julianne Arndt of Pembroke, NC; half-sisters,  Mary Jane Nye, Durham, NC, Lola A. Turner and Caroline Love Myers both of Charlotte, NC several nieces and nephews and two special friends, Edward D. LaFreniere, St. Matthews and Bidwell D. Moore, Columbia.
