Albert Joseph Bauerlin (Bert) passed away, Memorial Day Monday, May 26th 2014.   According to his wishes, a private family service will be held, the date to be determined.  Charitable donations may be made on his behalf to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church – Reach-Out Ministry: 2481 Spruce St, Martinsville, VA 24112.  This ministry was started by his beloved wife, Mary Callahan Bauerlin.  Your local Veteran’s Charity or your local Hospice organization.

Bert is a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy on the LST 700 and 740 in the Pacific Theater.  For his dedicated service he received the:  Pacific Theater Ribbon (3 Stars); Philippine Liberation Ribbon (2 stars); American Theater Ribbon; and Victory Medal.  Shortly after returning home from the War, Bert met the love of his life, Mary Callahan, and completed his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.  Bert and Mary shared 46 years of marriage that was a beautiful story of love and devotion.  Together they raised 5 children, poured their love and wisdom into 13 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.  Bert’s professional career spanned cutting-edge electrical, instrumentation, and systems engineering at the Savannah River Plant, Dupont, and consulting projects after his retirement.

Bert is predeceased by his loving wife Mary Callahan Bauerlin, his father Albert A. Bauerlin and his mother Anna Garrison Bauerlin.  He is survived by his sisters: Hope Bauerlin (Aston, PA) and Joyce Thornton (Rockport, TX); his 5 children:  Marianna Fillmore and spouse Roger Fillmore (Radford, VA); Mark Bauerlin and spouse Terri Bauerlin (Chapin, SC); Brian Bauerlin and spouse Kathy Bauerlin(Cocoa, FL); Aileen B. Barbato (Barnegat Light, NJ); Hope Childree and spouse Loyd Childree (Tallahassee, FL); 13 grandchildren:  Heather Fillmore; Erica Fillmore; Adam Fillmore; Guy J. Barbato; Brittany Rose Barbato; Kai Leia Childree; Leilani Childree; Albert Allin Bauerlin; Lilianna Childree; Matthew Bauerlin; Sarah & Morgan Bauerlin (twins) and Brianna (Breezy) Bauerlin; 1 great grandson:  Riley Hall.  He also leaves his devoted friend Dee Hebert and her loving family.

Bert wishes his loved ones fair winds and following seas as they navigate their individual life journeys.
