Margaret Ann (Brown) Thexton, 98, of White Rock, S.C. passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014.
She was born in Charleston, S.C., on January 4, 1916, to the late Carletta (Jachens) Brown and the late Arthur Brown. Margaret graduated from high school in Charleston and Roper School of Nursing in 1937.  She married Arthur R. Thexton in Asmara, Eritrea on November 18, 1955, while they both were serving in the Armed Forces.
Margaret retired at the rank of Major from the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in 1965.  Her 25-year career as an Army Nurse allowed her to travel extensively throughout the Philippines, numerous military installations in the United States, Asmara in east Africa, and Augsburg, Germany.  During her military career she was stationed in Asmara where she met and married her husband.  After retirement the couple resided in Columbia, S.C. near Irmo and attended the Redeemer Lutheran Church on St. Andrews Road.  She also attended services with her husband at the Old St. Andrews Parrish Church (Episcopal) in Charleston, S.C.
Margaret is survived by her husband Arthur. She is predeceased by her sister Carletta (Brown) Rhodes of Charleston, S.C.  She is also survived by her brother, Arthur Brown of White Rock, S.C. in addition to numerous nieces and nephews from both her family and that of her husband’s.  They also were privileged to share their home and provide an education to Ronald W. Clifton, Citadel Class of 1970.  She is also survived by two dear nephews and a niece of Erie County, N.Y., Gary W. and Tef R. Vitaris and Evelyn (Vitaris) Rowe.  Margaret thoroughly enjoyed being their aunt and providing guidance in their lives.
At Margaret’s request, a memorial service will be held at the New Life Chapel at The Heritage at Lowman in White Rock, S.C on Tuesday, June 3 at 11am.  The service will be officiated by the Reverend Christine Parham, Chaplin of The Heritage at Lowman, Reverend Gary Loadholdt of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and the Reverend Alfredo Gonzáles (Confessor) of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.  Immediately following the memorial service, a gathering of family and friends will be held at The Heritage at Lowman’s Hoefler Gallery. 
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Activities Fund at The Heritage at Lowman, P.O. Box 444, White Rock, S.C. 29177 in the glory of God and the hope for world peace.
