In Memoriam

Hugh Loraine Simril Jr. “Pig Root”, 77, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away on Monday the 2nd of June at his home.  Born in Rock Hill, SC on October 21, 1936, he was the son of the late, Hugh Loraine Simril and Louise (Evans) Simril.
Mr. Simril graduated from Winthrop Training School in 1955, earned a BS in Business Administration from USC, and served in the U.S. Army.   He married the late Carroll Whichard Simril and they spent 39 years together until she passed in June 2005.   He retired after 30 years of service as the Budget Director for SCDOT (former Highway Dept), served as longtime Treasurer for the Kappa Sigma Housing Corporation of Columbia, and became a Deacon of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington.  He was a proud Scotch-Irish, Presbyterian, Kappa Sigma, Gamecock, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend, and Follower of Christ.
Surviving are his sisters, Margaret Peake and Sarah Simril; son, Timothy Sinclair Simril, daughter-in-law, Jennifer Taylor Simril; grandchildren, Cadwyn Mae Simril and Hugh Cooper Simril who happily shared a home together with him.    
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by a sister, Jane Stewart.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday the 7th of June at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church in Lexington, South Carolina with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be held at a later date in The Old Bluff Presbyterian Church, Wade, N.C.
