Helen Maria Coffey Miller 1924 - 2014

Helen Maria Coffey Miller, age 89.  Helen passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord after a short illness at Chester County Hospital on June 24, 2014.
She was born in Philadelphia, PA, and also lived in New York City for a short period in her early years.  She attended Corpus Christi grade school in Philadelphia and graduated high school in 1942 from Hallahan High School. Helen was employed by Bell Telephone as an operator after graduating from high school.
She was married in 1947 to the late  Charles J. Miller Jr. She had 4 children, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was a woman of great faith, and was a member of Saint Madeline’s Parish in Ridley Park for many years.  As a parishioner there, she participated in several stewardships, including transport of elderly parishioners to doctor appointments and shopping trips, and pro-life activities.
Helen became very involved in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fleet Reserve, Unit 1, Philadelphia, PA and served as President of the Unit from 1973 to 1975, becoming Northeast Regional President in 1978. Through her years of service to the organization, she also served as Chaplin and Branch Secretary.  Helen and her husband Charles enjoyed traveling to many places including Hawaii, Ireland and many states throughout the country to vacation and attend FRA meetings.
She loved to be outside and enjoying gardening and reading.  As a resident at Pembrooke Health and Nursing Rehabilitation center in West Chester for the last 7 years, she enjoyed many hours of Bingo, going to Rosary, and comforting the residents she encountered during her daily activities.
Her biggest joy in her later  years, was spending time with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all of them.Helen was predeceased by her husband Charles J. Miller Jr. and her parents John and Susan Coffey and her brother and his wife William (Ann) Coffey.Survivors: Sons; Rev. Mr. Charles J. III (Judy), John W. (Eileen) and Edward J. Miller (Rosemary), daughter; Helen M. Plourde (Gerry), 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
