Chip McKernan

Joe's backyard touched mine and we knew each other since before kindergarten. In fact, at that time we were calling each other Pancho (Joe) and Cisco (me) and until his passing we still addressed each other that way as a joke. Joe and I were in the same class at St. Catherines through 8th grade. I moved away my Sophmore year in high school and we lost touch. In 2003 I married my grade school sweetheart Gretchen Ruprecht. We lived in So. California and we both talked about Joe and decided to try and get in touch with him. His mother told us he was in Palm Springs, so we called him and visited him and Maria several times. We loved seeing them. In 2008, Gretchen and I moved to Washington State and in 2011 moved to Allentown so we could only talk to Joe on the phone and we e-mailed each other. We were in contact with him until just before his death. Have fun up there Pancho! I miss you.

Joe was very dearr to me and my husband Chip McKernan.
We both knew Joe since grade school and have many fond memories of our time with him. We are so grateful we got to visit with Joe and Maria on two different occasions within the last 11 years. This is such a shock to both of us. We spoke with him less than a month ago and hope that now he is finally at peace.
Rest in peace our sweet friend.

So very sorry to learn of Joe's passing. It has been many years since I last saw him but the special people we meet in childhood are the ones that remain near to our hearts always. To his family, I want to send my deepest sympathy and prayers. RIP Joe.
