Kay Fitzgibbon Kay Fitzgibbon Memorial

Born: July 26, 1946 in Hamburg, Germany
Died: March 07, 2015 in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania, USA

Kay Maertens Cowern-Fitzgibbon 1946 - 2015

Kay Maertens Cowern-Fitzgibbon,  AKA "Mrs. Fitz" or "Mrs. Thanksgiving" to piano and classroom students.

Born a romantic , naive being, kind and generous, Kay leaves a wonderful brother Terry and his family in England, a sweet cousin Tina, a lovely son Benjamin, an adopted large family in Ireland - a precious "sister" Odile and family in France and treasured friends in New York and Pennsylvania, and a daughter Nicole Logan in Delaware.

Kay's ashes and soul will find rest and peace in Paris, as she strolls through her most favorite place in the world- the Luxembourg gardens.

Her father George Cowern was an English Artillery officer.  Her mother , Elfriede Koorits was a classically trained pianist from Tartu-Estonia.

The Koorits family was filled with musically gifted people; the Cowerns produced several recognized RA artists and medical doctors.

Starting off  from Germany in 1950 to America- Kay's mother was given ten dollars from The American Red Cross, eventually moving to New York City.  Kay graduated in 1969 with MS from Juilliard in Piano.

Life taught Kay to love travel, ballet, opera, cooking, gardens and flowers.  She learned languages, and loved teaching.  Teaching is a personal sharing of gifting another , a piece of oneself.  She loved people.

Her favorite flower is a gardenia.  She loved classical guitar music and Mariachis' singing, (wearing tight pants of course!).  Some of her favorite composers were Beethoven, Brahms and Respighi. Some of her favorite painters were; Caravaggio, Gaugin, Pissarro, Sisley and Boudin.

In lieu of flowers, please give a gift to St. Jude's Hospital or Operation Smile.  Kay will continue to give elegant dinner parties while waiting for your company at her table once more.
