Margaret Franck's Story

Margaret Jane Franck of Ardmore, age 68, passed away on September 2nd at Bryn Mawr hospital after an extended illness. Her nursing career spanned more than 45 years. She earned a diploma from Presbyterian School of Nursing and BSN and MSN degrees at the University of Pennsylvania. Her employment history included serving as an instructor at the Presbyterian School and teaching in Jefferson University Hospital’s continuing education department. She also worked for the Council of Labor and Industry. Her work at UNISYS and the McKesson Corporation involved demonstrating health-related software applications. Following retirement, her most recent work was part-time for Penn Travel Medicine in Radnor. She was very active in the Presbyterian Nursing School Alumni Association, serving as President and as a key organizer of the annual luncheon meeting and follow-up newsletter mailings. Born in Lancaster, she graduated from Hempfield high school in Landisville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Anna Mae (Groff) Franck. She is survived by her husband, Richard G. Bickel and three sisters: Susanne, wife of Paul Hershey; Barbara, wife of Mark Eshelman; and Mary Ellen, wife of Alan Herbster. Additional survivors are four nieces, a nephew, seven grand nephews and a grandniece. Burial will be in Lititz and will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Donor Services, PO Box 650309, Dallas TX 75265-0309 or the American Cancer Society, 1626 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103. A memorial service will be held at the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church Chapel on Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 PM. The address is 625 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010-9476.
