Cynthia Dugan

We worked together at 102nd Street School (Florence Griffith Joyner Elementary School) in Los Angeles. I watcher her grow from a beginning teacher to one who had extraordinary skills. She was caring but determined she would pull the best work from even the most reluctant learner. I loved her smile and quiet energy. We were all very fortunate to have her working with our children. Sending prayers to family and friends that will gather today to day farewell. I know your memories of the happy times will be with you forever and pray that your faith will guide you through the days that are most difficult.

I first met Pat at her school Loma Vista. I was a substitute teacher, she greeted me, and made me feel welcome. From then on whenever she saw me, she'd greet me and engage me in conversation. Like her, I too didn't like wearing a substitute teacher badge. The last time I saw Pat, we talked at school during lunch. As was her nature, she greeted me and a conversation ensued. Thank you Pat for being so nice. That's how I will remember you.

Rosa Rivas-Secretary at Loma Vista

Pat's last assignment was at Loma Vista. I had the pleasure to enjoy lunch with her. I will never forget her warm greeting to me when she came in to sign. She always told me she would not wear a substitute badge because she was a teacher. When she worked at Loma she always shower me with gifts for the different holidays. Her favorite one was Halloween. She always had encouraging word for me, if she ever saw me down. Her favorite lipstick color was red and her favorite color to wear was purple. She will always be special in my heart and that of my kids who also met her.

You had such a big heart. You were always so generous and kind to all, especially giving of yourself. You loved people and people loved you. I treasure the times we spent together, most of all our camping trips to the desert. You will always be with me in my heart.

My Best Friend

Patty Cakes, you were my BFF for 46 years. I miss your nightly phone calls and I will treasure my lifetime of memories always. Your warmth, your smile, and your great personality will be remembered for the joy you brought to everyone. And like the titles of some of your favorite songs, you have now gone past the Harvest Moon, beyond the Velvet Sky, and are now in Heaven, where I know you are singing loudly and proudly with the Angels. Love you my friend. Rest in peace.

We will miss you greatly. You're smile and laughter will remain with us. I will always remember how much fun we used have staying at your house every year around Christmas when we were little. It was always my favorite thing to make and decorate dozens of Christmas sugar cookies with you. We couldn't believe how many cookie cutters you had. When ever I make Christmas cookies with my children I will always think of you. Love you always.
