Larry Charles Knight

Larry's Story: 

Larry Charles Knight, 68, of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, formerly of Frazeysburg, Ohio died on July 4, 2015, at his residence.

Born June 9, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Robert D. Knight and Fern I. Knight and was a graduate of Frazeysburg High School in 1965.  In high school Larry played football, basketball, and ran track.  He was involved in Student Council, the Scholarship Team, and served as Class President for one year.  He graduated from Ohio University in 1969 and later returned to the university and earned his teaching degree in 1974.

In 1969 and 1970 he taught Social Studies, Science, and Math to fourth graders in the Riverview School District and in 1970 and 1971 he taught Ohio History to seventh and eighth graders in the Tri Valley School District.  During his summers, while in college he worked for the Buckeye Pipeline Company.
 
After teaching Larry found his life’s career in the world of Sales.  He got his feet wet selling burglar alarms in Zanesville, Ohio, room and banquet space for Holiday Inn in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and copiers in Columbus, Ohio.  In 1976 he went to work for Weber Marking Systems selling electronic label printing equipment, software, and bar code and scanning equipment in Columbus, Ohio.  Promoted to District Sales Manager in 1980 he moved his family to Cleveland, Ohio where he managed a warehouse and fourteen sales people covering Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, and Indiana.

During his five years in Cleveland Larry achieved quota each year and ranked number one in the nation once and number two twice.  Once again, Larry was promoted to Regional/District Sales Manager – Western Region, packed up the family, and made the cross-country trek to Rancho Cucamonga, California.  There, he was responsible for a warehouse and an eight person sales force covering California, Arizona, Utah, Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Hawaii. 

From 1990 through 2001 Larry worked in sales and management for RJS, Inc., Monarch Marking Systems, Zebra Technologies, and Symbol Technologies. He retired in 2001.

Surviving is his daughter, Alayne F. Mata and her husband Aaron of Loomis, CA, two grandchildren, Hunter and Hailey Mata of Loomis, CA, his brother, Robert D. Knight, Jr. and his wife Pamela of Almont, Michigan, his step-mother Gladys Knight of Jackson Springs, North Carolina, and his best friend Laura Knight of Alta Loma, California.

A POEM FOR MY FATHER

He made me cry

He made me laugh

He taught me how

He taught me how not

He had a sarcastic way about him

I too, have perfected the art of sarcasm

He was a loner

I seek alone time

He had a love of the outdoors

I am beginning to appreciate the outdoors more and more

He shot guns

I have been known to shoot some dreadful looks 

 
He gave me an ear

I gave him stories

He soaked it all in

As I soaked in his acceptance and laugh

He gave me beauty

I gave him comfort

He had a wealth of knowledge

I took in that knowledge every day

Five dollars for “B”

But twenty for an “A”

The gentle push

Made me what I am today

He thought the WORLD of me

And I will forever think the WORLD of him
