Peter Chapin's Story

Peter James Chapin age 46, a resident of Newtown Square, PA passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends on March 18, 2012 at Bryn Mawr Hospital. A resident of Newtown Square for the last 12 years, Pete was born and raised in Media, Pa. He was a 1984 graduate of Penncrest High School and attended Kutztown University. Pete and his wife Eileen are the owners of PJ’s Sports Bar in Aston, PA. Pete loved the outdoors the beach and barbecuing. Survivors: Wife, Eileen Miller Chapin; daughter, Brooke Olivia Chapin; Mother, Kathleen Shockley Chapin; In-Laws, Mary Ann and Charlie Miller, Brother, Michael Chapin; Sister, Jodi Chapin Williams (J.J.), Sister in laws; Melissa Ihlenfeld (Drew), Megan Miller; nephews, Sean, Will, Jase and Trey. Peter Chapin entered the Marine Corps shortly after high school in 1984. He attended Basic Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Following, Peter attended the School of Infantry at Camp Lejuene, North Carolina where he was awarded the military occupational specialty (MOS) of 0331 machine gunner. His first duty station was Security forces at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. After serving there for over a year, Peter transferred to the Third Marine Division in Okinawa Japan where he was deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit where he served in various countries in the far east and south Pacific such as Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand and Marine Corps Base, Subic Bay, Philippines. Peter’s final tour was in Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Center, 29 Palms, California where he served with the 7th Marines. Peter’s final rank was a Corporal and he filled the billet of Machine-gun squad leader for Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. After leaving the Marine Corps, Peter continued to hold the Marine Corps close to his heart and proudly displayed his espirit de corps in his actions towards others with a warm smile and genuine sense of brotherhood. The Viewing will be held on Wednesday evening 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church 2220 S. Sproul Rd. Broomall, Pa. 19008 and Thursday after 9:00 am. The Services will begin at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s and the Burial will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery Broomall, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to TD Bank c/o Peter Chapin Fund (in support of Brooke Olivia) 2014 Sproul Rd. Broomall, Pa. 19008.
