Leonore Passalacqua's Story

Mrs. Leonore M. Secamiglio Passalacqua, age 95, died June 18, 2011 at her residence in Upper Darby, Pa. Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Mrs. Passalacqua had been a resident of Upper Darby, Pa. since 1951. Mrs. Passalacqua retired from Lankenau Hospital as a Cardiac Research Technologist. As a young woman Mrs. Passalacqua was very active in the CCD program at Annunciation Parish in South Phila. When she moved to Upper Darby, Pa. she became very active in St. Alice Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, participated in the CCD RCIA programs and taught CCD for 25 years and was commended by the Cardinals for the best attended teenage class. Mrs. Passalacqua was loved by her students and they continued to visit her when they went to college and even after they had children. Mrs. Passalacqua enjoyed giving to others whether it was knitting, sewing, designing or cooking. She was a skilled artist, having been requested by the St. John Neumann Museum in Phila. for a portrait of St. John Neumann as a child. It was this depiction that a child, cured from Reyes Syndrom, recognized as the child who came to visit him while he laid in a coma at CHOP and was cured within days. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening and her pets. Mrs. Passalacqua was thought of as a wonderful neighbor who was helpful to their needs. She is predeceased by her husband Joseph A. Passalacqua who died in 1979, and her daughter Carol A. Passalacqua who died in 2010. She is daughter of the late John and Anna Picciano Secamiglio. Sister of the late Elizabeth DiGirolamo, David, Col. John "Sac", and Robert Secamiglio. She is survived by her daughter Judy Passalacqua, a sister Clairanne Sims and a brother Edward Secamiglio and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Wednesday June 29, 2011 after 9:30 am in the church of St. Alice Walnut St. and Copley Rd. Upper Darby, Pa. 19082. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Interment Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to St. Alice Church would be preferred.
