Alfred Frederick Bremble, Jr. 1934 - 2017

Alfred Frederick (Ted) Bremble Jr. of Washington Crossing PA, died peacefully at home on April 18, 2017.  He is survived by his wife, Nancy Joy Bremble, his life companion for 60 years.

Born in Plainfield, NJ on March 19, 1934, Ted was the son of Alfred Bremble Sr. and Christine Norton Bremble. They predeceased him as did his brother, Thomas Norton Bremble of Doylestown, PA. Ted had resided in the Titusville, NJ/Washington Crossing, PA area for just short of 50 years.

After schooling in Plainfield, Ted attended Dartmouth College where he received an A.B. degree in English in 1956. As an undergraduate, he was a class officer, a member of Beta Theta Pi and played both football and rugby. Following graduation, he served as a Naval officer, stationed in Washington, D.C at the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. After military service, he returned to his alma mater, beginning his working career in alumni and public affairs as assistant secretary of the college. During this time he served as managing editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine.

Leaving the academic world in 1962, Ted began a long career in business-to-business marketing communications, first as a public relations writer with the DuPont Company, then for 18 years in advertising/marketing with the Swiss firm, Mettler. He worked briefly for the Ohaus Corporation, then as Vice President for two advertising agencies before establishing his own marketing services firm, Bremble & Sewforth, in 1988. Here he enjoyed creating campaigns and programs for a handful of loyal clients until his retirement in 2001.

Ted was a long-time member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Pennington, NJ, where he served in a number of capacities including warden of the vestry. He also volunteered for his college as a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council and class newsletter editor. An Eagle Scout, he served his community as a Boy Scout leader. He also was president of Hopewell Township conservation commission and president of Cedars West of Longboat Key, FL, his winter condo home for a dozen years. He enjoyed a variety of sport hobbies including all racket sports, golf, canoeing, and sailing. He was a budding watercolor painter, an earnest gardener and a collector of all matter of things, but particularly antique doorknobs.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, Ted is survived by his son, Alfred (Rick) Bremble III and his wife Elizabeth of Kirkcudbright, Scotland, his daughter, Susanne Bremble Johnson and her husband, Andrew, of Boyds, MD and his sister-in-law, Nancy Doty Bremble of Doylestown, PA. Ted was a proud grandfather of Christine Joy Johnson of Boyds and three Bremble boys: Clark Gregory and Evan Leonard, both of Raleigh, NC and Reid Bennett of Newark, DE.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Pennington, NJ on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 5:00pm and a Committal Service at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ted’s memory to The Friends of the Delaware Canal (www.fodc.org).
