William Gegan's Story

William A. "Bill" Gegan on June 9, 2010 at the age of 99. He was the loving husband of the late Grace A. (nee Galucci), and father to his late daughter, Jackie Moore; he is also survived by Granddaughters, Sherri M. Gagnon and Billie Jo Boughter; great- grandchildren, Somer and Tyler Gagnon, and Zachary and Ethan Boughter. He is also survived by by nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. He attended West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys where he graduated in the class of 1929, the start of the Great Depression and bank failure. He began his working career during the summer of 1928 working as a building fireman and electricians helper at what was then The Franklin Trust Company. Seven years later he was recruited by John Wanamaker Company where he was hired as the building electrician and engineer. he stayed with the Wanamaker Company for 18 years which included three years in the US Navy Seabees from which he received an honorable discharge after WWII. On the GI Bill he earned his degree in HVAC from Temple University in 1954. He was employed for 32 years by EJ Frankel and Asssociates, Inc., as a chief engineer and building manager for a number of buildings owned by the Frankel Enterprises. During his working career Bill was elected to serve two terms as President of the Institute of Engineers and two terms as President of the Philadelphia Building Superintendent’s Association. Bill always had a cheerful and friendly disposition. He always viewed life as “the glass being half full and not half empty”. He lived by the motto “I could never live long enough to thank all the people who have helped me”. He will be sorely missed by his family and those who knew him. His last request that we all remember him in our prayers. Viewing and Funeral Mass to be held at St. Monica Church, 635 First Avenue, Berwyn, PA 19312 on Thursday beginning at 9:15 a.m. Followed by his Mass at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s honor to Surrey Services for Seniors at 28 Bridge Ave., Berwyn, PA 19312.
