Just a Few Memories

When we were like in 5th or 6th grade, we traveled our first time to Mexico. All of us kids got a new leather bullwhip, the real thing. Well, Dad tells us to go in the front yard with them and play with them. You have to know what happened. Well, let's just say you learn real fast how to whip that thing or else you got beat with it. LOL
And, we used to practice on each other Judo. Mom said the boys couldn't take Judo without me getting to. Wouldn't be a fair fight then. I was the first and only girl to take Judo at the YMCA.
He played the drums in band at Hallsville Schools. We all dance, but Gary Bryan and I more so. We did more competition. When he was here last, we went dancing and it was awesome! He also took guitar lessons. He played Football in High School for Longview Lobos. Attended Hallsville School District from 1st Grade till 8th Grade. Went to Montessori School for Preschool and Kindergarten. He played Baseball in Elementary School.
He also won Mr. Longview when he was a little boy. First time in a pageant. When he was just in Elementary School every week going into Brookshires on E. Marshall in Longview Texas he would blow kisses to all of the ladies at the registers. It was a weekly habit. They were expecting him and called him by name.
Did he tell you we would enter dance contests when we were younger? Won an Urban Cowboy Record album at Bakers Street Disco in Longview. Thinking that was around 1978 or 1979.
He loved to fish. He was great at fishing. He started young. Out fished the whole family. And, he fished doing the things we were told not to do. He was in Elementary School and would accidentally drop the end of his pole in and out of the water. Then he would be talking or laughing. He would still catch fish. He would go to Lake O The Pines and fish by himself at the spillway. He would tie 4 or 5 hooks to one line on his pole. Then cast it out there and real it in. He would always catch massive fish sometimes snagging all 5 at the same time. He had to give fish away. He liked to go Crawdad fishing with bacon, too. Always at Teague Park. He would put a bunch of them in a large coffee can to take home and fry the tails. Sometimes they would spill out and he would play with them. Our backseat entertainment didn't come from handheld video games or televisions. It came from Gary Bryan. He would decide we would have a contest on who could make the funniest faces. Or who could tell the funniest joke. He would even pretend to sick some of his crawdads on me. Scary. When we were growing up it was nothing to be left in a car when your Mom or Dad went into a store. Everyone did it. Oh, and we would hear, “You better not come in here, and don't ask for anything because you're not getting it". Well, after a while we would always send in Gary Bryan. He was the baby and could get anything. After a minute he would come back to the car and open the door and say, "What kind of coke do you want? What kind of chips or candy do you want?" Priceless...........
He went roller skating on the weekends during the Summer. Always such a big flirt. I won't say it was always him. He had a lot of encouragement.
He had a kind heart, especially with animals growing up. He loved them all. Every time we found any animal that seemed hurt or ill we would walk across Hwy 80 in Longview to Dr. Rhinehart's Veterinary Clinic. Show him our animal, bird, whatever we brought to him usually in a shoebox or wrapped up. We would leave it with him. Dr. Rhinehart was so very kind to us.
He was an acolyte at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview and would many times be in both services on any given Sunday. When he was 13 years old he was confirmed. He was a cub scout and then a boy scout for many years and went to camp every summer. He was a member of Longview Police Explorers.
Well, just a few memories.

My Brother Gary Bryan

Witty, always had something funny to say. Many quotes came from his Parents that raised him. Some may even add bathroom humor to that list. He loved his wrestling and attended as many as he could. If he couldn't attend them then he was watching them on television, getting just as involved. You could always pull up his Facebook page and see a joke. If he couldn't find one that reflected his self at the time, then he would recite his own. He always made sure that everyone got a laugh in sometime in their lives. He would often make funny faces just to get you to smile. Life is too short to go around being unhappy. He loved and adored his Children and Grandchildren. Not enough can be said about that. Although he never was fortunate enough to have any of his very own, he never looked at it that way. He would say, "Step, half, or whole doesn't matter. We are all family". He would wear wrestling T-shirts most all times, although you could say he had T-shirts from past concerts and places he was privileged to visit in his travels, and or work. You could say he found the most happiness in his life just being with his family and friends.
