Dear Mentor and Friend
Deepest condolences to Bayard's family are sent with my appreciation for how he enriched my graduate student life: support, perspectives, and a lasting example of passion for our field and the fellowship that comes from it.
Bayard was a great scientist and a terrific friend and advisor for me. And on top of that, an incredible gentlemen in life.
He will be missed a lot

A Wonderful Man and Scientist
A kind and generous man who always gave of his time both inside and outside of science, a mentor to so many of us, a scientific colleague and true friend. Bayard, I will miss our impromptu discussions in the hallway and our scientific discussions in your office or over a glass of wine at meetings or in your home. I am sure that I speak for many of us. You will always be in our minds and hearts.

Bayard was one of the most generous people I have ever known. His humor, his wisdom and his generosity, his insightful questions (after we thought he'd been dozing) are etched in my mind. We will miss him, but always remember him.

A Life Well Lived
Bayard was an exceptional human being. He was also an exceptional scientist. He knew that science was a way of life and not just a job. It is easy to remember him with that ever present warm smile, soft voice, and sparkle in his eyes. He was a valued, trusted advisor to students, young colleagues, old colleagues, and friends. His calm, thoughtful demeanor nearly always held steady amidst the aggitation of others in any discussion. He only had one instance of my experience where he sheepishly confessed he "lost his marbles" over an issue for a while, an instance we laughed about for decades. The small artisan wood box full of marbles that sat on his desktop over the decades was a "replenishment" supply for him to keep close at hand. A gift from an admiring friend, me, to a respected colleague, advisor and friend. Rest in Peace Bayard.
The most generous heart and mind that I've ever experienced (along with Francey). It was a privilege to know them.
Ever a friend
Ever since my first scientific presentation in 1979, Bayard has consistently been there for me -- to answer any question and challenge any new idea. I will sorely miss his warm friendship and sparkling humor, and always cherish memories of dancing with him at banquets. Sally Perreault Darney
So often the good and the great do not come in the same person, but, in Bayard Storey, they did. In good, not goody-two-shoes good, but good in kindness, in courtesy, and in intention toward others. Great, not as in wide public acclaim great, but great in his knowledge, great in his passions, and great in his mentoring to the young, the stumbling, and the uninformed. Life and literature inform us that the loss of any person is a loss to all; but when the good and great depart it leaves a special scar, an absence always remembered, always regretted. Those who knew Bayard know what I am talking about; those who did not missed a special man.
A dear colleague
Bayard was a leading light in the field of fertilization, a champion of young scientists, and a consummate gentleman. His example of powerful intellect and generosity of spirit made me proud to be his colleague in the field. I will miss him.
