Asuncion Knewstub's Story

Asuncion Balaga Knewstub Asuncion “Sionie” Balaga Knewstub, loving wife and mother, age 62, died peacefully on Saturday, August 22, 2009, after having suffered the complications of severe strokes and a long battle with myeloproliferative disorder. Born on May 7, 1947 in Tanawan, Tubigon Bohol and raised in Barangay, Pondol, Hinunangan, Southern Leyte, Republic of the Philippines, Mrs. Knewstub attended school in Caniapan. In life, she carried a deep love and loyalty to her Philippine roots and remained forever supportive of her extended family in the Philippines. To her daughter, she was a leader and an example of the quintessential matriarch. Asuncion was a member of the Hinunangan Circle of America and The Knewstub Family Association. Mrs. Knewstub had an intimate connection to the earth, which she maintained through her love for gardening and shared her sons’ and husband’s love of sports, especially the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, Sixers and Flyers. She was an excellent seamstress and encouraged in her children a tenderness and love for animals through her adoption of the family pets’, Moses and Chloen. Asuncion will be especially remembered for her strength of spirit, beautiful smile, love, loyalty, warmth and as a defender of her family. She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Robert L. Knewstub; her daughter, Michele M. Knewstub; her son, Oliver W. Knewstub, and late son, Robert G. Knewstub. She is also survived by her sisters: Rosita B. Vacal, Gregoria B. Dulfo, and Modesta B. Beslig; her brother, Se Si Nando B. Gamol, and late sister, Matilde B. Sultia. She leaves behind numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. A private viewing will be held for closest friends and family members at the John P. Donohue Funeral Home at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 27, 2009, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am in St. Alice Church, Upper Darby, PA. A committal service will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcomed to The Robert Gamol Knewstub Memorial Fund, c/o Michele M. Knewstub, 220 Hampden Road, Upper Darby, PA, 19082.
