Hope Simpson 1926 - 2018

 Hope Harbeson Simpson died peacefully surrounded by family at age 92 on June 4th at Broomall Presbyterian Village.

She is survived by her son Samuel Kier (Pam), daughter Mary Wright Kier, and three grandchildren Christopher(Alison), Alison (Chen), and Nicholas. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Natalie, Caroline, Eliot, Jemma and Julia. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan, and siblings Robert and Faith.

Hope, also known as Caroline Hope, was born in Danville, PA on April 15, 1926 to Caroline (Rowe) and Thomas Harbeson.

She was valedictorian of her High School class in Milroy, PA. She had a love for music that began early and was a self-taught pianist, playing the piano for the Lutheran church in Milroy. She continued her music studies at Susquehanna University and graduated In 1948 with a B.S. in Music Ed and a major in voice.
She married William Kier from Pittsburgh in her hometown Lutheran Church in 1948. She was a rector’s wife and served with her husband in parishes in Pittsburgh, Buffalo, NY, and at St. Mary’s in Wayne. She also directed the girls choir at St.Marys. Her high point musically was performing the Brahms Alto Rhapsody at St.Mary's under the direction of Walter Yeager
In keeping with her love for music and education, she taught music at Ithan
Elementary school, was a substitute teacher, and taught private piano lessons.
She sang as a professional mezzo at St John's church in Norristown for 16 years.

She married  Bill Simpson in 1972 and later worked as a receptionist in a Philadelphia investment firm and as a receptionist for Main Line Health.

She retired back to her hometown buying a lovely bungalow house, teaching piano, getting spiritual direction, and taking theology courses.

She was devoted to God, her children who she would do anything for, and all her grandchildren,  great grandchildren and to those she called friends.

Forever in our hearts

A memorial service will be held Satuday August 18th at St David's Episcopal Church, 763 S. Valley Forge Rd, Wayne, PA at 1:00 pm. A small reception follows.
