Stephen L. Yale 1935 - 2020

 Stephen Lake Yale, 84, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania passed away, early morning of April 8th, 2020 after enduring several years of Parkinson’s disease and other health issues.

Stephen was born in Oak Park, IL in 1935, and his formative years were spent in Iowa, before relocating to Winchester, Massachusetts, for high school. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College (1957) and a BD/Master of Divinity from Andover Newton Theological Seminary. He has also studied at Harvard Divinity School.

After school, he was a minister with the Congregational Church in Manhasset, New York and Kingston, Rhode Island. In the 1960s he moved to Philadelphia to work with the United Church of Christ. In the early 1970s he was employed at Drexel University as Dean of Students. He later began a consulting career with his firm Enrollment Analysis. Following that, Stephen took a position with KYW-TV and KYW Newsradio as Human Resources Manager. This was followed by positions as Vice President for Human Resources at Comcast Cable Communications and Vice President of The College of Santa Fe in the 1980s. The remainder of his professional time was spent as a consultant.

In Philadelphia, Stephen served on more than 30 agency boards and committees including Reformed Democrats, Women's Way, United Way, the World Council of Churches, The  Housing Association of Delaware Valley, The Health Care and Human Values Task force, Community Services of Pennsylvania, et al.

In his younger age he enjoyed playing tennis, basketball, and squash. He had numerous friends around the country and traveled extensively in the United States. He was a lifelong fan of his beloved Red Sox and particularly enjoyed watching professional sports, including the Philadelphia teams of his adopted city. He will be missed by those who loved him for his sustained sense of humor, his endless curiosity and his deep intellect.

Stephen is survived by his two sons, Stephen Yale of Providence, Rhode Island and Palmer Yale of Rutherford, New Jersey, his ex-wife Anne Cunningham and his sister, Stephanie Klaber. He is predeceased by his parents, Lucius Pride Yale and Margaret Yale, and his brother Robert Yale.
