Pasquale Joseph Amato

Pasquale (Pat) Joseph Amato, born on January 1, 1914, passed away after a valiant fight against Parkinson’s Diseaseon March 30, 2013.  Pat was born on New Year’s Day, 1914 in New York City, New York.  His parents returned to their native Italy when Pat was an infant and he was raised and educated in Bari, Italy.  Pat studied violin at the prestigious Academia d’ Santi Cecilia in Rome.  After returning to the United States as a young adult, Pat played violin in various orchestra in New York City and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  Pat served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942-1946 in both the Pacific and European theaters of operation.  After returning to the United States after four years overseas, Pat attended Fordham University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree.  He went on to teach for over 35 years at various New York City Public Schools, including the High School of Music and Art at City College, while living and raising his children in Rivervale and Old Tappan, New Jersey.  Pat retired to Sarasota, Florida in 1991. Pat is survived by his loving Wife Dr. Nadia Amato with whom he would have celebrated his 50th anniversary on April 15th  He is also survived by children Elena Oliver, Ann Watkins, and Victor Amato (Britta) of  New Jersey, Julie Collins (Peter) of Sarasota, Florida, and numerous grandchildren.  Pat’s family would like to extend their appreciation to his dedicated caregivers, Maria-Christina Dussan, Maria Garcia Ruvira, and Jorge Luis Martinez as well as the dedicated staff at Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota.   A private funeral mass will be scheduled at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, Florida 34238.
