Nina Jean Lacey

Nina Jean Lacey, 87 of Scottsdale, AZ passed away April 24, 2013 in her home with her beloved husband Bob of 68 years by her side, daughter Avis and dear friend Cinde.  Her wide smile, loud laugh, and hugging arms will be missed by her family and neighbors, and friends. Born in Casey, Illinois, she moved to Phoenix in 1960 with her husband Robert Lacey, and two daughters. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lacey, her daughter Jennifer Jo Payne, daughter Avis Lacey-Halbach  including four grandchildren: Erin Duffy, Matthew Halbach , Sarah Halbach, and Rachel Halbach;  five great grandchildren: Donovan, Dylan, Melissa, Robert and Chloe as well as her brother Roger Smith and wife Peggy.  No child crossed her path without receiving a hug and no one spoke to her without endearments of "Honeys". She was treasured by her children's and grandchildren's friends as she treated them all with affection. One of Avis' friends wrote "Your Mom saved my life as a kid.  Spending the night at your house was like a haven for me ".  After suffering with Alzheimer's for the last twenty years, many did not realize her disease until the last ten as her gift of gab protected her. She was a housewife who worked some years in retail and childcare at a Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing tennis, sewing, caring for and loving her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and always being with her husband Bob each day.  After she quit speaking, she did remember one last word: Bob. A celebration of life will be May 2, 10a.m. at 7532 E. Holly Street in Scottsdale.  All family and friends are invited to share memories and stories of Jean's wonderful life.
