Charles Spurgeon Mayfield Charles Spurgeon Mayfield Memorial

Obituary Charles S. Mayfield

Charles Spurgeon Mayfield Jr, was born on April 14, 1956 with his twin sister Charmaine to Charles Sr and Christine Mayfield in Philadelphia Pa.  He was predeceased by his parents, joining them on Saturday August 9th after a determined fight with brain cancer

He would tell you that he had a great childhood filled with family trips to Virginia and outings with his parents network of extended friends. He shared a lifelong special bond with his twin sister. He was so attentive to her in school that they were separated in kindergarten  to allow her to become independent.  Charles attended Sunday School at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Years ago he was lead to the Lord by his night nurse during an extended hospitalization after the Septa El derailment where he almost lost his right leg.

Charles, better known as Chuck was educated in the Philadelphia school system. He graduated from the W.B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences, where he could be seen around the campus driving a tractor, majoring in Turf grass.
He joined the Marine Corp soon after high school, where he served at 29 Palms in California and Okinawa, Japan. He wanted to make the Corps a military career but was prevented by an injury. His love for the Marine Corp continued though out his life. He enjoyed celebrating Marine Corps Birthday every year and kept in touch with lifelong buddies. SEMPER FI!

Chuck returned to Philadelphia where he was employed by Northern Homes for Boys. He enjoyed working with the youth and has maintained many relationships as they became adults.

He later discovered his passion in real estate which became his career.  Chuck was employed by the Sandidge & Co Real Estate company for over 20 years, where he excelled in retail sales and appraisals.

Chuck will be most remembered as a people person. He could make anyone laugh and always had a funny story to tell about work, the Corp or his time with the boys or family. He loved interacting with his family and friends which were numerous. He maintained a close relationship with the friends he grew up with from the neighborhood. They were part of the 636 Explorer Scout Troop. He loved to vacation with this group in the Outer Banks of NC, where he enjoyed cooking and swimming. Those were two of his favorite things. Over the years he swam every morning. His question after any illness was always "when can I get back in the pool." Everyone will miss his famous fried Turkey! He loved grilling and cooking and was great at both. He was known for hosting holiday dinners and cookouts!

He was also a family man. He met Carmelita over twenty years ago and became a proud father to Jamar and Jasmine. He also loved being Pop-Pop, spending time with his grandchildren, and often picked them up from school, keeping them on weekends and of course enjoyed cooking for them. He also took his role as brother and uncle very seriously and was always supportive. He maintained a close relationship with his cousin Leroy (Wiggs) who was like a brother. He was loved by all his extended family, know for his outgoing and cheerful personality.
