James R. Mancini 1926 - 2020

James R. Mancini, 93, of Ridley Township passed away on October 23,2020 at home.

He was the cherished husband of 65 years to Marilyn (nee Miller) and devoted father of daughters Robin Mancini, Lisa Mancini and Tina “TInx” Safern (Steve).

Our beloved father was born and raised in South Philadelphia on November 9, 1926 to the late Domenico and Assunta. He was the eldest of five siblings who all survive him.

Our Dad attended Bok Vocational High School until the U.S. entered WWII. Too young to enlist, he contributed to the war effort by working at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard until drafted, serving in the US Navy. After military service, he returned to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard as an electrician, retiring in 1981 after 39 years of federal service. Too young and active to “retire” he worked several more years for federal contract engineering firms.

He loved VW Beetles, handing them down to his daughters as they learned to drive. He was known as a man who could fix ANYTHING from the time he was 11 years old. Most of all he treasured his family and friends. Any gathering, especially attending Eagles football games with his son-in-law and grandsons brought a smile to his face.

He will also be remembered for his kind heart, generosity, courage and humility.  He expressed his love by doing for others, especially his wife and daughters who could count on him for anything at any time.  There is a void in our lives that no one else can fill.

He is also survived by his cherished grandsons Zachary (Dominique)and Matthew (Maria) Safern and 3 great-grandchildren Adriana, Jonah and Elena.

Graveside Service will be held Monday, November 2, 2020 11am at Edgewood Memorial Park, 325 Baltimore Pike/Route 1, Glen Mills, PA, Section I, 107D, 3&4.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jim’s name to the Veterans organization of your choice.
