Long Term Friend

From the time I was in my early 20s and Glen lived atop Union Seminary through his years in San Francisco...until we lost him, Glen was a loyal and wonderful companion over the years. We talked, traveled and laughed. His death was a blow to me during a time of several other losses. Now that some time has past, his face and voice are again vivid to me. I will always be grateful for the years of friendship.

My dear colleague and Servas friend

Glenn Loomis was my friend and colleague working on special international Servas assignments. He wanted to move to France when he retired and did. However, recently while back in the USA, he fell and hit his head and sadly died on November 14,2020

Glenn loved sharing what he knew about the USA and the cultural uniqueness in different regions of the USA. He could tell what part of the USA you were from just from a brief conversation. He knew what part of PA I came from just by my accent.

As a volunteer host in United States Servas, his host listing said he welcomed travelers who would help him perfect his French to move to France. One time when I visited him at his home in San Francisco, he was hosting 5 French speaking Servas travelers, each from a different country each with different points of views about France and French and each with different cultural French recipes to share all speaking French.

Because Servas is an international peace organization that promotes face to face contacts and free home visits,
there are over 90,000 Servas hosts in over 100 countries where countries share event invitations.

In 1999, US Servas held its 50th Servas Anniversary National Conference at the University of San Francisco (USF) where Glenn Loomis, USF Assistant Vice President for Facilities , arranged for dormitory room housing at cost. Over 200 Servas members attended including members from 9 other countries. It was a great success thanks to Glenn.

Glenn was the kind of person who loved people and learning. His enthusiasm for life, love of Servas made him one of the most active interviewers of potential Servas Travelers.

He took on special Servas assignments as the US Servas representative working with Servas France and Servas Canada

He is missed and we are all better for knowing Glenn
