Julia Strong 1947 - 2021

Julia B. Strong passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at age 74. Born in Exeter, New Hampshire, Julia was the daughter of the late Merrill Palmer Strong and Mary Moore Strong.  She was a devoted and caring mom to daughter, Kira Strong, and aunt to nephew Alexander Tiberio, who she raised after the passing of her sister Leslie Strong.

Julia spent her younger years in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois and high school years in the capital district of New York. She graduated from Albany High School and SUNY New Paltz with a degree in art education. Julia lived for a short time in Salt Lake City, Utah, before moving back to the Capital District.  She worked as an art teacher and then a computer programmer for nearly 20 years before pursuing a Masters Degree in Special Education at Russell Sage College. Julia started a new career at Montessori Magnet School in Albany as a Remedial Reading and Math Teacher, where she stayed for nearly 20 years until her retirement.  Julia had a lifetime passion for arts and crafts and was an accomplished quilter. She was a valued member of the local quilting community and inspired many of her friends and family members to pursue sewing, quilting and other art forms.

In addition to her daughter and nephew, Julia is survived by her son-in-law Matthew Hollerbush, granddaughter Willa Hollerbush, her nephew's partner Kristi Haner, sister Cathy Ann DeLisio, niece Vanessa DeLisio, and nephew Justin DeLisio, and former husband and father of her daughter, Ronald Hyman.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Julia's life on September 11, 2021 at 2 pm at the Charley Houghtaling Park, 63 Mathias Place, Feura Bush, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory can be made to the Albany Fund for Education at http://www.thealbanyfundforeducation.org or motherbearproject.org
