Devoted family woman; Brookhaven resident


Kathleen Mary ‘Kate’ Gallagher, 70, of Brookhaven, died on  February 5 at her home after a brief illness. She was surrounded  by devoted family.


Born in Chester, she was fourth of the eight children between  Francis Gallagher and Margaret Klotz Gallagher. Kate was a  graduate of Sun Valley High School class of 1969. She spent over  20 years as a manager in corporate food service, followed by a  second career in project management for several sign companies. 


She led a life of total commitment to her daughter, Christine  (Gallagher) Holefelder, as well as her large extended family. Kate  loved spending any time she could with her 9 nieces, 8 nephews,  and two grandsons. She enjoyed traveling, and made several  visits with family to Ireland and Western Europe. She was an avid  collector, and had countless hobbies like photography,  needlepoint, sewing, cooking, and numerous other crafts.


Known in the family as “Sarge”, Kate had a take charge nature and  a vast knowledge of all things DIY. She was a constant and  supportive presence as a daughter, sister, mother, aunt and  grandmother. She was determined, stubborn, knowledgeable,  capable and tough. She is deeply missed and will be forever  cherished. 


She was predeceased by her father, Francis B. Gallagher, her  mother, Margaret J. Gallagher, and her older brother William ?  Gallagher.
Survivors: Daughter and Son-in-law, Christine and Steven  Holefelder of Brookhaven, Grandsons William and Samuel  Holefelder, Sisters Fran Shuebrook of Guelph, Ont., Ruth  Gallagher of West Chester, Maggi Mizell of ? Ohio, Eileen Nelson  of Aston. Brothers Barney Gallagher of Milmont Park, John  Gallagher of Wallingford.


A memorial will be scheduled in the spring. Date is TBD.
