Patricia A Mc Tiernan

Patricia “Pat” Anne McTiernan (née Smith), 80, of Middletown, DE,  passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on November 21, 2022. She was born in Darby, PA, daughter of Jack and Rita (Hogan) Smith. Pat spent her career working for Social Security for almost 25 years. She enjoyed knitting, bowling, volunteering at the Middletown ER, and Bunker Hill Elementary School. She enjoyed her retirement by traveling the world on cruise ships with her best friend Sue. She was an avid sports fan, whether that be any Philadelphia sports team, the women’s basketball team at the University of Delaware, and the Villanova men’s basketball team. She organized the best March Madness tournament with all of her friends and family each year. She was a devout Catholic.

Pat was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer three years ago this November and fought this horrible disease with everything she had. Because of her strength and determination, we were blessed with three additional years of  holidays, family trips, and memories to cherish forever. In addition, she is a 28-year breast cancer survivor. Despite it all, she never lost her beautiful smile.

Those who knew Pat, know that she was an incredibly kind and generous woman. She proved that to be true even in her death by giving the greatest gift of all. She donated her body to science which will greatly enhance the lives of others throughout the world.

Pat was predeceased by her husband Jerome McTiernan.  She is survived by her daughter Molly Crumley (Ed) and grandchildren, Courtney and Connor. She is also survived by her best friend and caretaker Sue Davis. She will be missed by many friends. Pat’s funeral mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to PanCan (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network),  Jefferson Hospital (Philadelphia,PA), Anatomy Gifts Registry (Hanover, MD), or the American Cancer Society.
