Sharon's Obituary

On the morning of December 13, 2022, Sharon Mellor of Honey Brook, PA passed away at the age of 77.  Sharon was born in 1945 to Thomas Scallion and Cecelia Goldman in Provo, Utah.  Sharon moved with her mother to Philadelphia, where she grew up and eventually got married to Joseph Raymond Venezia in 1965. Together they raised three children, Christopher, Brenda, and Jonathan, as well as fostering, Barbara DeAburo and Janet Mester.  Sharon remarried in 1995 to Norman Phil Mellor and they spent their lives together living in Phoenixville, PA, Hot Springs Village, AR, and Womelsdorf, PA before retiring to Tel Hai Retirement Community in Honey Brook, PA.
Sharon loved animals, especially cats, but over the years she had numerous different kinds of animals including sled dogs, goats, chickens, rabbits, ducks, geese, peacocks, guinea pigs, and parrots. Sharon was a long time member of the Master Gardeners Club. At every house Sharon owned she tended to a beautiful garden with flower beds. Upon retiring, she took her love for gardening to Tel Hai where she organized and created lovely garden areas that she could share with the local residents.  When Sharon wasn’t tending to her gardens, her and Phil spent time traveling the world and going on cruises.  In their travels, they went to places like Africa, Alaska, and Dubai. Sharon very much enjoyed this time with Phil and they both found great joy in exploring the world together.
Sharon is survived by her spouse Phil Mellor, her sister Reta Maze, her 3 children: Christopher (Emily), Brenda, and Jonathan (Carrie). She will be fondly remembered by her 5 grandchildren Marissa, Ethan, Cooper, Luca, and Laela as well as 7 nieces and nephews.  Sharon is preceded in her death by her father Thomas Scallion, mother Cecelia Goldman, sister’s Lynette Schaeffer and Roberta Scallion, and brother Patrick Scallion.
A private memorial luncheon will be held for immediate family.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be in Sharon’s name to Penn State Master Gardener's Club of Berks County, The Office of Annual Giving, 2583 Gateway Drive Suite 200, State College, PA 16801 or on the web at https://extension.psu.edu/programs/master-gardener/counties/berks, click on the ‘Donate To Berks County Master Gardeners.
