Robert (Bobby) C. Irdi, Vietnam Veteran and Beloved Father, Dies at 73

Robert C. Irdi, fondly called Bobby or Jim-Bob, unexpectedly passed away of natural causes on February 4, 2023 at the age of 73. He was born on April 8, 1949, in the Bloomfield section of Pittsburgh, to the late Guido and Mary (Ventura) Irdi. Bobby attended Central Catholic High School before enlisting in the US Marine Corp in November of 1966 and later as a US Army Reservist. He served in the US Marine Corp. during the Vietnam War with the 3rd Marine Recon Div, 3rd Class Marine Battalion. Following the end of his term, Bobby reenlisted as a US Army Reservist and was quickly promoted to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II within the Special Operations Army Intelligence Unit. He received over 15 US and Vietnam ribbons and metals of honor, including a Bronze Star during his tours of service.

During his time as a US Army Reservist, Bobby was employed by the Pittsburgh Port Authority as a bus driver and served for 6 years as a Deputy Sheriff for the County of Allegheny. He most recently was employed as a member of a cleaning crew responsible for the maintenance of local businesses.

Bobby is survived by his children: Brandon J. Irdi (Crystal), Damian J. Irdi, Ryan C. Irdi (Sara), and Tina M. Irdi; step-children Amber Nolan, and Christopher Rapp; and grandchildren, Logan, Navin, Ethan, Dylan, Maggie, Caity, Skylar, Kaeden, Lily, and Carter; his aunt Amelia (Millie) Kuziel as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his late parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved sisters: Mary S. Irdi and Viola (Irdi) Canino, and treasured daughter Dana M. Irdi.

Bobby enjoyed running in marathons, riding his classic Indian motorcycle with the Iron Indian Riders Association, and was a past member of numerous associations such as the Free and Accepted Masons, Franklin / St. John's Trinity Lodge #221, high priest of the Bellevue Royal Arch #286, Scottish Rite Valley Masonry of Pittsburgh of the 32nd degree, Knights Templar Tancred Commandery #48 of Wexford, Mt. Moriah Council #2, Pittsburgh's Syria Shriners Temple and a drummer in the Syria Highlanders Pipes and Drums Band.

Bobby's earthly remains will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA with full military honors on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM. At his request, a viewing preceding his burial will not be held. A memorial will also be placed beside his treasured daughter Dana Irdi at the St. Stanislaus / St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, 700 Soose Rd, Pittsburgh, PA  at a later date.
