Trains!

Some of my favorite memories of Dave Devine are from my high school days... he and I had an affinity for trains, particularly model trains. A few times Dave took me down to some model train stores somewhere in greater LA - I have no recollection where - and we spent hours looking at the shelves, finding our favorites, dreaming of what we would buy with unlimited resources. A few times we went to large model train exhibits, too. Model railroads that encompassed room after room after room, all with the the finest attention to detail! Dave was probably in his 50's (a rough guess), I was probably 16/17 or so, but we were like two 10 year olds with the widest eyes and biggest smiles! We just kept finding new things that we had to show each other, new details, new scenery, incredible feats of model railroading. I haven't had an actual model railroad since I was eleven, but I do dream of having one again some day (when I retire, perhaps), and I will certainly never forget visiting those exhibits and shops with this wonderful man.

He always had a silly joke and a hearty laugh when I came over to the Devine house. It was always such a treat to see him. Miss that great guy.

Peace be with you all, and blessings to you all in this project.

The Popcorn King

I have many memories of David & Bonnie in Mariner's groups, camping trips at Cuyamaca State Park, and especially of him sitting with his large bowl of popcorn! What a fun guy he was and he will be missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers are for all his family. May God give you His peace & comfort.

Joelle

I did not know your dad very well, but he produced some incredible children, Elizabeth being my dear friend. I know that you loved your dad and you did so much for him, especially in his last years. You are an amazing daughter and a reflection of your wonderful father. I am so sorry for your loss but I know that the two of us will be happy to see our dads again in heaven!!

Dear Bonnie, Elizabeth, and Scott,

It is with pleasure to send you special memories of your Dad! There are many special times that I/"we" can remember about your father that go way back. From joining you all at Joshua Tree camping when we came on April Fools Day and I was on crutches(only as a joke) to stuffing his bathroom with balloons on his birthday, to being together at Laguna while Don and David sat on the condo balcony solving the problems of the world. Always ready for a joke, especially while we were in church, to dinners together with your family and our family. Through happy times and through times that were sad, we were always enjoying each other. To rocks in shoes, to graduations, to weddings, to grandchildren your Dad always had a smile on his face and was ready with a big hugs. I will miss him but know that he is now at peace. I am so thankful that he was my/our special friend.
Blessings,
Julie
