Michael James McCaul

MICHAEL J MCCAUL
Michael ("Mike") James McCaul passed away peacefully at 8:25 a.m., Thursday, February 8, 2018, at home in the presence of his loving daughter, Michele, and wife, Lydia. He blessed this earth with his presence for ninety-one (91) years. Mike was happily married to Lydia for forty-six (46) years and together they raised their daughter, Michele.
Surviving are his wife, Lydia, daughter, Michele, and son-in-law, Leonard. Proud grandfather "Grumpy" to Leonard Michael and Brooke Gabrielle. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Brigid Elizabeth "Bessie" McCaul, William McCaul (brother), Dorothy "Dot" Thompson (sister), Howard "Hard" Thompson (brother-in-law). Loving brother-in-law to: Kate, David (deceased), Juliette (deceased), Gerald (deceased), Jean, Carl (deceased), Joan, Nazim (deceased), Joan (Lyn), Kenneth, Christine, Hugh, Angela, Victor, Lena, Frank (deceased), Pearl, Michael, Gloria (deceased), Allison, Ferdinand, Lennox (deceased), Laila, Leon, Lloyd, Alvin. Beloved Uncle to more nephews and nieces than one can count.
Mike was an intense reading enthusiast; books were his constant companion. He would have three or four books within reach at any one time. Mike was known for his sense of humor, gentle nature, intelligence, and compassion. When asked what he would like, his answer was always "peace and quiet," which was rarely possible with his loving family around. He always looked forward to his rambunctious grand kids, Lenny and Brooke, bolting through the door like thunder and lightning, reveling in their constant chatter and surrounding him with love and happiness. Nothing pleased him more than watching them on the track, the soccer field, or basketball court.
At the behest of the President of St. Thomas University, in Miami, Florida, Mike accepted an administrative position in the Spring of 1981, and moved his family to South Florida from upstate New York. Over the course of his distinguished academic career, he wore many hats and held myriad professional administrative titles: Registrar, Dean of Admissions, Assistant to the President, Dean of Continuing Education, Academic Dean, President of New York State Association of Junior Colleges, and Professor. His passion was teaching, and he returned to the classroom until his retirement in the summer of 1995. Mike will always be remembered for his keen intellectual ability and endless knowledge, but above all, his devotion to his family and friends.
A lifelong educator, Mike firmly believed that education provides the basis for continued success. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike's memory may be made to the Kevin O'Connell Scholarship Fund at St. Bonaventure Catholic School, 1301 SW 136 Avenue, Davie, Florida 33325.
According to his wishes, a Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 16, 2018, 11:00 a.m., at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, 1301 SW 136th Avenue, Davie, Florida 33325.
