Dear Ken

I received your sweet note, probably just days before you died, saying you were not well and sending your love. I replied, but did you receive it in time? I'd love to offer condolences to your widow, but I'm not sure I have your address. I am touched by your death and your life and wish you'd let me know of your illness sooner. You were kind and understanding to me, way back then. I Wish we'd kept in closer touch through the years, given our shared commitment to Buddhism. I"m glad I knew you. Katy Butler.

Ken, I learned of your passing on day 5 of sesshin. My first day as a part time participant. All my effort was for your safe rebirth. On the mat, grieving your departure...no better place. I will always hold our yaza comradary in sesshin earnestly in my heart.
