William J. White, Jr. 1960 - 2019

William J. White Jr., 59, of Cave Creek, AZ,  passed away suddenly on Friday, September 13, 2019 at Paoli Memorial Hospital in Paoli, Pennsylvania.  He was diagnosed with acute adult onset promyelocytic leukemia at the time of his death.

Born January 16, 1960 in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Danzi) and William J. White, Sr. He grew up in the city of Philadelphia, and at the age of 10 his family relocated to the countryside of Pennsylvania, and he attended a local high school where he excelled on the football field and in the classroom.
Bill graduated Valedictorian from Upper Perkiomen High School in 1977. He attended Ursinus College and received his B.S. in Biology and Chemistry in 1981 and received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Lehigh University in 1986. In addition to his education, he received the following awards and honors – James J. Kerrigan Memorial Scholarship (Merck, Sharp and Dohme), the Presidential and Centennial Scholarships (Ursinus College), Beta Beta Beta (National Biological Society, Ursinus College), Who’s Who Among American College and University Students and the Academic Hall of Fame, Upper Perkiomen High School.
Bill had 33 years pharmaceutical industry experience from Supervisor to Director/VP management positions in manufacturing, product development, quality assurance, and quality control.  He had strong regulatory/compliance/quality operations/management background.  He was an expert in countermeasures against potential biological warfare agents (anthrax/botulinum/influenza/smallpox). He was instrumental in developing vaccines for the government as a result of 9.11.01, for which he received commendations . His expertise in FDA regulation surrounding the development, manufacturing, and handling of pharmaceuticals made him sought after as an invaluable consultant to both government and private pharmaceutical companies. Bill logged over 2 million miles in the air, working in Europe, Asia, and North America. He had a broad and unique set of skills, with expertise in the IT field as well.   Bill was known as a great friend, mentor and business partner.
In addition to being excellent in his profession, Bill was just as dedicated to his health, and his passion as an athlete. He played football and lacrosse in College, and even took a shot as a professional football player for the San Diego Chargers at their walk on try outs.  He was known to remark “Some people smoke, some people drink, I lift heavy things.” Lift heavy things, indeed he did, and at an elite level. Bill won many State and National Titles, with the deadlift being his lift of special excellence.  Bill’s six State records and two National records still stand in NASA’s Powersports Record Book.  Bill was a great mentor, and would coach younger lifters in the gym in how to do lifts correctly and safely.  Bill enjoyed visiting hard core lifting gyms around the USA and Europe.
Bill was an accomplished pianist. He played in church, at private events, and as part of a dueling pianist show.  At one time, he traveled from gig to gig in a motorhome with several dalmatians.   He enjoyed playing Billy Joel and Elton John’s 70’s songs on his piano at home, and never failed to play the Linus and Lucy Peanut’s Theme at Christmas time.  Bill had a powerful voice, and his impersonations of Marvin the Martian, Bugs Bunny, Elmer Fudd, and Porky Pig were spot on.  He missed a second career as a voice actor!

Bill is survived by his wife Dorothy Kathryn White. Bill and Kathryn enjoyed traveling internationally with Germany being a favorite destination.  Kathryn was born in Frankfurt, and lived in Germany as a child.  Bill was fluent in German, and especially liked reading the technical manuals in German, which was impressive to his German clients.  He liked his midday naps, and could be found happily snoring while a YouTube video about Einstein’s Theory of Relativity in German, or a historical documentary about the Celts blared on the television.   Bill and Kathryn also enjoyed lifting weights, and  Arabian competitions with their horse Jamaica.  The shared their faith as Christians and sought to honor and glorify their savior Jesus Christ with their lives together.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his daughter, Abigail White, his sister Joan M. White and his brother Francis M. White.
