A Mentor and Community Conservator
I had the pleasure of being an intern for Karl for the Germantown and Mt. Airy newspapers while attending Arcadia University. I was headstrong and certainly overconfident in my writing, and I will always remember him telling me that 'great stories aren't written, they are edited'. I often think of this advice and how it applies in life beyond writing; someone else's thoughtful input can and will make you better. Karl did that for me and I will always remember him for it.
His contributions to the community through his journalism, love of history, and teaching speak for themselves. I suspect many others were also gifted an important life lessons or two from Karl's many endeavors.
I truly am sad to see that Karl has passed and to know we will not cross paths again. My condolences to his family.
