Celebrating the Life of Phyllis Y. Watson (nee Hoggard)

Phyllis Y. Watson (nee Hoggard) age 90 died peacefully Friday morning, May 1, 2020 at Broomall Manor Nursing Home, Broomall, PA after suffering from dementia for several years. The cause of death was myocardial infarction. Phyllis was born on March 29, 1930 in Plainfield, NJ. She was the youngest of three children born to the Reverend Dennie W. and Isabel E. Hoggard, both of whom predeceased her. Her only brother, Dennie W. Hoggard, Jr. also predeceased her.

Phyllis was a product of the Philadelphia Public School System. She received her High School diploma from Overbrook High School. All of her working career was as a Settlement Clerk with what is now Citizens Bank. For over 25 years she worked for this financial institution through its various name changes - Girard Bank, George Bank and Mellon Bank. She retired in 1994 from Mellon Financial Corporation with commendation for service as an efficient and dependable employee from 1967 to 1994.

From her youth through adulthood, Phyllis was an active member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Philadelphia where her father was the pastor for 31 years. After the "home going" of both of her parents she became a member of the Overbrook Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia. She was a member there for 36 years.

Phyllis was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves to rejoice in her memory: four children, Cherisse Watson, Romance L. Watson Jr. (Karen), Keith H. Watson (Brenda) and Elizabeth V. Molina (nee Watson); eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a sister, Olga Hoggard and husband Romance L. Watson, Sr.

A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Dennie W. Hoggard, Jr. Memorial Libraries Endowment, The Pennsylvania State University, 510 Paterno Library, University Park, PA 16802 1812.
