I have known Chris for 35+ years so was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of his death. Chris was always my “go to” guy on external perspectives on the steel industry while I was working at Chemical, Chase, JPMorgan and Wells Fargo. His deep insights helped me avoid many minefields as the Bank was contemplating capital markets transactions to various steel clients. But while his insights were remarkable and unique, a testament to his knowledge and relationships, I valued Chris even more as a good friend who never raised his voice, always had a sense of humor, and kept business and life in perspective. He was always available at a moment’s notice and traveled wherever he needed to, to help on a transaction. Although Chris did not specifically mention his deep Christian roots, as I look back on my association with Chris, he exemplified the best of Christian values 24/7. He will be sorely missed. With Deepest Sympathy to Nancy and all of Chris’s family.

The passing of Chris are sad news indeed. We think of Chris as a close friend and partner since times immemorial. We cooperated in many projects, in particular during the super cycle when the demand for iron ore and steel and hence studies and advice were in high demand. We met on many occasions both in Europe and the US, where he welcomed us into his home, but of course most frequently over the internet. Chris’ deep knowledge and easy going personality was invaluable when meeting with clients and solving problems. His systematic approach with long time data series on almost any subject related to the steel industry, always readily available, formed the basis for all of our joint projects.

While we would have liked to have talked to him many more times, we are truly grateful for the time we got as his friends.

It is indeed with much sorrow we mourn the passing of our dear friend Chris. In my many years in industry, Chris was undoubtable one of the finest men I encountered. A true gentleman and alway supportive and encouraging. I can only say it was a joy to have known him and he will always remain in my heart as a truly inspiring man. God offer eternal repose to his soul.
