James Watson's Story

James R. "J.W." Watson, 61, of Rutledge, PA, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland.
Born in Drexel Hill to the late Frank and Sadie Thompson Watson, James grew up in Colwyn and has resided in Rutledge for the past 30 years.  A 1968 graduate of Darby-Colwyn High School and Widener University, Mr. Watson was very active in various Delaware County softball leagues.  He was a member of the Murray-Stuart American Legion Post 566 of Glenolden and also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in  Morton.  James was currently working as a letter carrier for the Swarthmore Post Office where he has been for 28 years.  He was also the shop steward for the Swarthmore Branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers.  James was an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
A Veteran of the United States Navy for 4 years, James then served in the United States Army Reserve for 16 years, retiring in 2008.
He was the brother of the late Frank Watson who died in 2006 and the uncle of the late Sean Watson who died in 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Joyce Smith Watson; his children, Alen M. Watson and his wife Jaimie of Millersville, PA, Peter Watson of Waco, TX and Craig J. Watson of Rutledge, PA; brother, John M. Watson and his wife Barbara of Glenolden; sisters, Beth A. Radick and her husband John of Morton and Bonnie J. Serratore and her husband Mike of Morton; three grandchildren, Amanda, Evelyn and Elena.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass 10 am Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 2130 Franklin Ave, Morton, PA.  Interment will follow in Ss Peter and Paul Cemetery, Marple.  Friends may call  Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm and after 8:30 am on Wednesday at the James F.Knoetgen Funeral Home, 746 Kedron Ave, Morton, PA 19070.
Memorial contributions in his name to the Murray-Stuart American Legion Post 566, Glen and Boone Aves, Glenolden, PA 19036 would be appreciated by the family.
